Front Yard Walkway: Part 2

It is such a beautiful day out!  At least where I live.  So I will share more of our front yard walkway project.  Inspire you to get out in this weather and do some work! (Ha, yeah right you just want to sit back and enjoy the sun!)

I convinced Grumpy to help me rip up all the terrible shrubs near the front walkway! (clap, clap, clap)  Thanks guys.  It was rough, I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it, but I was victorious in the end.

So after we ripped it all up and dug up the roots.  Grumpy, you worked very hard on this project and I appreciate it.  You have such strong muscles.  Your arms, oh I could talk about them all day... Oh sorry, hey guys, I forgot you were there. I got carried away there.

I am really, really, really sorry, but I don't have pictures of this because it was actually before I started this blog. So here some random cute pictures of my family from this past fall!

Ohhhh. Little Miss in the adorable hat my aunt made her!

Grumpy teaching Cheetah Boy how to make the "grumpy face".  Apparently it is a difficult skill to master.  Awesome.  What was that?  You noticed my super cute pallet shelf hanging on the wall there?  Yup I made that.  I'll do a post about it some day.  Maybe.

Little Miss is getting pretty good at the grumpy face too!  She is saying "Daddy, please can't you just smile for one freakin' picture?"  Little Miss!  Watch your language!

(Sigh)  It's hopeless.  But look how pretty I am!

Are you kidding?  Yes, my children are this adorable!  This was this past Halloween.  (Well obviously, Little Miss is only 1, not like it could be two Halloweens ago.)

Ok, I will continue with the actual post/project now.  We ripped it all out and I sent Grumpy (In his awesome manly truck) to get a bunch of rocks to put down.  Well it wasn't enough.  I TOLD him to go back and get the same amount again; however, he thought he knew better and only purchased half as much.  The result?  See for yourself.

We did not have enough.  Yes, it was almost enough.  But still not enough, and the rocks at the end are really thin... like you can see through to the plastic.  Luckily for Grumpy, I now have a different idea that will cover that up.  No, I won't tell you yet.  I have to keep you wanting to come back!  You won't be able to sleep at night waiting.  I take it too far?  Yeah, ok.

Oh!  And see the two huge rocks?  Of course you do.  Well we moved those too!  They used to be... well let me pull up the before picture, I think you can see them there.

Well, you can see the edges of them a little.  If you continue to read, you can somewhat figure out how far we had to move them by noticing the gross dirt/or whatever stain on the house.  Too much work?  I know sorry, just forget it then.  Anyway, the rocks were not where they are now.  So Grumpy and I (ok mostly Grumpy, but I did help) rolled the rocks over to where they are now.  They were heavy!!  (Really?  Huge rocks were heavy?  What a shocker.)  Grumpy with those big strong muscles again(sigh).

If you remember, my next part of the of the plan for this area was to get some cool wooden barrel planters.

The result!!

So pretty if I do say so myself!  Except that gross dirt or whatever it is that has stained the side of the house. (sigh)  I'll think of something.  Right now I just have some flowers planted in the planters (planted in the planters... a little repetitive, and now I made it worse).  I will eventually get some shrubs that will survive through the winter, but Grumpy wanted it to look pretty for now.  Yes he said that.  And it does look pretty.

Kisses~

Do you prefer planters, raised beds, or simply planting your flowers in the ground??

  1. I like planters. I do like to feel the soil, but only when planting veggies....not flowers. I like creative planters also--like a wheel barrel, a mail box, a tire, etc. The more original, the better. I read on pinterest about putting a hanging plant on an antique lamp stand....doing it!!
